Police identified a man who died in a shooting near a mosque on Columbus' Northeast Side.
Luqmaan Cusmaan, 21, died in the shooting, police said in an updated news release.
Officers responded to a shooting at 2:12 p.m. Oct. 19 on the 2200 block of Albert Avenue, east of Westerville Road (State Route 3), according to the news release. Officers found Cusmaan with a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene at 2:19 p.m.
A police dispatcher said a caller reported a group of boys were shooting outside the Alrahma Mosque, 2205 Albert Ave.

Columbus police Sgt. James Fuqua said the shooting happened outside while a funeral was taking place inside the mosque. The
shooting was not an attack on the mosque or related to the funeral but caused concern for those inside, he said.
The shooting happened a few hundred feet from the mosque and may have started at an apartment complex just down the street, Fuqua said. Two groups of people were involved.
In the news release, police said several people were in the ares before the shooting. Detectives are working to identify those people and establish a motive.
Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
