A Columbus man was killed and three other people were injured in a head-on crash in Pickaway County.
The Pickaway County Sheriff's Office received a report at 6:37 p.m. Sept. 13 of a head-on collision between two vehicles in the 12500 block of State Route 104, just north of Route 316. Walker Road.
Deputies and officers from the South Bloomfield Police Department responded, the sheriff's office said.
The deputies learned that a 2017 Chevrolet Trax SUV driven by 47-year-old Basil Southern, of Columbus' North Side, was driving southbound in the northbound lane of Route 104. At the same time, a 2024 GMC truck driven by Amanda J. Howard was traveling in the northbound lane.
Howard swerved into the southbound lane to avoid hitting the Chevrolet, but the Chevrolet also
swerved into the southbound lane and struck the GMC head-on, the sheriff's office said.
Southern and two other occupants inside the Chevrolet had to be extracted from the SUV, the sheriff's office said. Southern was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two other occupants were transported by the Scioto Township Fire Department to Columbus-area hospitals, the sheriff's office said.
Howard was transported to a local hospital by Circleville Fire and EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office.
