Columbus police have detained more than a dozen people for questioning after officers who were executing a search warrant Aug. 25 at a West Side home came under gunfire.
No one was struck in the incident, said Sgt. Joe Albert, a spokesman for the Columbus Division of Police.
Just before 10 a.m., officers executed a search warrant connected to a narcotics investigation at a home in the 200 block of North Harris Avenue. Officers made themselves known several times and demanded that anyone inside come to the door and surrender, Albert said.
After not hearing any responses, officers were preparing to make entry into the home when at least one person began firing several shots at the officers from the rear of the house, Albert said. Officers did not return
fire, he said.
Officers detained a total of 17 people and were still in the process of interviewing them as of mid-afternoon Aug. 25, Albert said. No charges have been filed yet.
Several firearms were recovered from the home, but Albert could not say what kinds of guns or exactly how many were recovered. He also could not say if any of the people who were detained were connected to the ongoing narcotics investigation.
Detectives from the police Major Case Investigation team were still on scene, Albert said.
