Ohio State wide receiver commit Jamier Brown’s two-game suspension to open the 2026 high school football season likely concerned two violations of name, image and likeness bylaws, according to a recap of the Ohio High School Athletic Association board of directors’ Aug. 27 meeting.
The press release did not name Brown, but said an athlete from Big Walnut – where Brown had transferred from Huber Heights Wayne in January and competed for the Division II state championship track and field team – violated two NIL-related bylaws in that he failed to disclose agreements to the executive director’s office within 14 days.
That led to a two-game suspension, identical to that which Brown is facing for Wayne’s first two this season. Brown transferred back
to Wayne in early August.
“Sunbury Big Walnut High School had a student-athlete in football violate Bylaw 4-11-3 and 4-11-8, Name Image and Likeness, when he failed to disclose his agreements to the Executive Director’s office within 14 days of entering said agreements,” the release read. “In accordance with Bylaw 11, Penalties, the student has been suspended for the first two regular season games during the 2026-27 football season.”
Brown is a five-star recruit and the state’s top-ranked senior regardless of position, according to 247Sports. He missed a 35-25 loss at Fairfield in Week 1 and will have to sit out the Warriors’ home opener Aug. 28 against Cincinnati St. Xavier.
Brown is eligible to return for a Sept. 4 home game against Lakewood St. Edward.
OHSAA football champion placed on probation
Additionally, reigning Division IV state football champion Cleveland Glenville is among five programs statewide on probation for one year because they held padded practices before Aug. 1, the official start date of the preseason.
Four Cincinnati-area schools – Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy, Hughes, North College Hill and Withrow – were placed on probation for various other violations.
The affected schools saw their allotment of summer days for 2027 reduced from 13 to 10.
Cincinnati Anderson, the Division II state runner-up each of the past two seasons, also held full-team practices before May 11, the start of summer contact days. That led to a one-game suspension for coach Evan Dreyer, which he served last week during a 59-13 loss to Louisville (Kentucky) Trinity.
