On Aug. 26, 2026, Tyler Stiers, 24, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder in connection with the Dec. 7, 2024, stabbing death of Kylene Young, 39.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Karen Held Phipps sentenced Stiers to life in prison with no option for parole for at least 25 years.

Columbus police identify 23-year-old man charged in murder of woman on Southwest Side
Columbus police homicide detectives have identified the man arrested on a murder charge in the death of a woman in what an assistant chief called a "domestic incident."
Tyler L. Stiers, 23, who earlier this year was listed by police as a resident of the "streets of Columbus" and who previously lived in Dayton, was charged Tuesday and arrested in Athens County, detectives said Tuesday night in a release. He is to be extradited
back to Columbus.
Stiers is charged with killing Kylene A. Young, 39, who was found dead Monday afternoon at her residence in the 2000 block of Harrisburg Pike on Columbus' Southwest Side. Police were dispatched at 1:03 p.m. to the home on a well-being check.
Columbus Division of Fire personnel forced entry into the home, where Young was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by city homicide detectives, Stiers admitted to detectives that he punched Young, and Young stabbed him in the arm with a knife. He struck Young several more times then took the knife from her and repeatedly stabbed her, killing her.
Detectives also noted that a bloody palm print was found at the scene that belonged to Stiers.
During a press conference called by Columbus police on Tuesday afternoon to debunk online rumors and speculation that Young's death and that of three women found slain in a home on the South Side might be related results of a possible serial killer, Assistant Chief Smith Weir made clear the two incidents were unrelated. Weir reported Stiers' arrest without identifying him and called Young's killing a "domestic incident."
However, Kelli Schobelock, who identified herself as Young's mother, said in an email Wednesday to The Dispatch that Stiers was someone her daughter knew, but was not her boyfriend. She disputed the police characterization of the death as domestic violence, noting Stiers did not reside at the residence.
Stiers "had beaten her before and was obsessed with her. This was not domestic violence, this was murder ... She was murdered by someone she knew who was not a boyfriend and she was not a victim of domestic violence," Schobelock wrote.
