Columbus residents will have new opportunities to experience local art at a discount throughout October.
The Greater Columbus Arts Council is organizing ARTober, a monthlong celebration featuring special ticket offers, free admission and self-guided tours of public art around the city.
The celebration coincides with National Arts & Humanities Month and is designed to encourage residents and visitors to explore Columbus’ creative community.
"Whether you discover a new artist, visit a museum or gallery, catch a performance or simply try something creative yourself, ARTober is an invitation to connect with the people and places that make Columbus such a vibrant city," arts council President and CEO Mitch Menchaca said in a news release.
What ARTober deals are available in Columbus?
Participating
arts organizations will offer several promotions during October, including:
- Short North Stage will make a limited number of pay-what-you-want tickets available two hours before performances of “Sweeney Todd,” running through Oct. 18, and “The Rocky Horror Show,” running from Oct. 22-31.
- The Wexner Center for the Arts will offer free admission to exhibitions and screenings throughout the month.
- The Short North Arts District will feature a free digital Trick or Treat Trail during Hops on High and HighBall Halloween on Oct. 3.
Additional events and promotions will be announced throughout the month.
How can you explore public art in Columbus?
Residents can also use ARTober to explore murals, sculptures, installations and other public artwork across Columbus.
More than a dozen self-guided tours are available through the Columbus Makes Artwebsite. The tours are organized by neighborhoods, themes and collections.
Users can also search for individual works of art across central Ohio online or use the ArtWalks mobile app while exploring the city.
How can you participate in ARTober?
Residents can take part by attending performances, visiting galleries, purchasing locally created artwork or merchandise and supporting local festivals and makers.
Columbus’ nonprofit arts sector supports more than 13,000 jobs and generates more than $885 million in economic activity each year, according to the arts council.
