Halloween is less than a week away. Do you know what your costume will be?
If you’re drawing a blank on what to wear, there’s no need to despair just yet. The city of Columbus is the perfect source of inspiration. Here are some last-minute ensemble ideas that are relatively simple, fun and locally linked.
Brutus the Buckeye is always a best bet
It doesn’t get more iconic than the Ohio State mascot himself. Always up to some kind of mischief, this is the perfect costume for the person who’s more interested in tricks than treats.
Obviously, the head will be the trickiest part of this costume to pull off. If you don’t have a Brutus head lying around your house, there are some DIY instructional posts and videos on social media to help you pull off the look. Complete with Brutus’ trademark
scarlet and gray-striped shirt and scarlet pants, and you’re set.
Twenty One Pilots is edgy and easy
Looking for a quick costume for two? Central Ohio celebs Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun of Twenty One Pilots are an excellent option for you and a friend to channel your inner rock stars in the city where they got their start.
This one’s pretty straightforward to assemble. Simply pick your favorite Twenty One Pilots era and replicate the artists’ looks. Depending on your sense of style, your closet likely already holds most of the items needed. For example, an all-black or all-white outfit with a bright red beanie for the “Blurryface” era. Bonus points if you add red eyeshadow.
CBJ costumes can get into team lore
Love our city’s hockey team and want everyone to know it? Columbus Blue Jackets fans have a few options when it comes to showing their team spirit on Halloween.
For an easy look, throw on your favorite Blue Jackets jersey with red or navy blue shorts over dark-colored pants and striped hockey socks. Hockey stick and helmet optional.
For those looking for a little more fun, dressing as Stinger himself is the way to go. This will require some DIY skills to either craft the iconic mascot’s bug-eyed head or recreate the look with makeup. Add a Blue Jackets jersey and lime green pants, and your transformation is complete.
Of course, we’d be remiss not to mention the team’s other, less official mascot: the Nationwide Arena Elmo balloon. It’s been a beloved fixture in the venue’s rafters for years and earned a permanent spot in the team’s lore. If you’re able to wrangle an Elmo costume in time, this is a fun option sure to delight fans.
Wendy can be cute or punk
Everyone knows the smiling redhead slinging old-fashioned burgers and Frostys from every corner of Columbus. She’s cute, she’s iconic and her look isn’t too hard to replicate.
Steal Wendy’s style with a blue-collared dress, white apron and knee-high striped socks. Whether you opt for a wig or temporary dye, the bright red pigtails are the most crucial component. Use eyeliner to add some fake freckles for extra flair.
If you’re looking for an alternative with a little more edge, Emo Wendy is always an option. No, we didn’t just make that up. Wendy’s released a pop-punk EP in September titled “Songs to Listen to in a Wendy’s Parking Lot,” and the brand itself has shared images on social media of the mascot donning a traditional emo swoop with black bows and heavy eyeliner.
It’s another look that’s quick to orchestrate and lets everyone know that it was never just a phase.
