Longtime WBNS-10TV anchor Tracy Townsend is stepping away from television news after more than two decades at the Columbus station.
Townsend announced her departure Wednesday, saying her final day at 10TV will be Sept. 30, the station reported.
“Being part of the 10TV team is truly an incredible chapter of my life,” Townsend said in a 10TV story.
Townsend joined WBNS in 2005 and currently anchors “10TV News This Morning.” During her career, she has reported on breaking news, politics, health and other issues affecting central Ohio families.
Who is Tracy Townsend?
Townsend is a Cincinnati native and graduate of Ohio State University. Before arriving in Columbus, she worked at television stations in Cincinnati, Kansas City and Chicago.
Her work has earned multiple Emmy Awards
as well as regional and national Edward R. Murrow Awards. She was also named Best Anchor by the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors and contributed to political coverage that received a Walter Cronkite Award.
Outside the newsroom, Townsend has advocated for women’s health. A breast cancer survivor, she has served on the board of Komen Columbus.
When is Tracy Townsend leaving 10TV?
Townsend’s last day at 10TV will be Sept. 30. Her announcement did not specify what she plans to do next, but she said she is looking forward to the next stage of her life.
Townsend’s announcement comes about three months after longtime 10TV sports anchor Dom Tiberi stepped away from his full-time role at the station following a 45-year career. Tiberi continues to lead 10TV’s Ohio State football coverage.
Townsend thanked her colleagues, viewers and the central Ohio community for supporting her throughout her career.
