The Downtown restaurant that introduced Columbus diners to Kurdish cuisine is closing.
Silav Cafe & Grill, which opened in June 2024 at 330 S. High St., announced plans to shut down after the close of business July 31. Owner Ikhlos Muhammad told The Dispatch she hopes to reopen in a smaller, more intimate location but hasn't found the right one yet.
Many of Silav's dishes — including gyros, shawarma, falafel, hummus and desserts such as baklava —overlapped with traditional foods from other cultures across the Mediterranean and Middle East. Its menu also included uniquely Kurdish kebabs, dips and drinks, though.
