Olentangy Local Schools' fifth high school now has a name.
The new high school under construction in the state's fourth largest district will be named Hyatts High School. After reviewing input from the community, staff and students, along with relevant historical research, the Olentangy Local school board approved the name at an Oct. 8 board meeting.
Under board policy, school and facility names must reflect local history or geography. When one-room schoolhouses scattered across Delaware County began to be consolidated into four K-12 school buildings after 1910, Hyatts School was the second such school when it opened in 1914. Hyatts School closed in 1973, along with the Powell and Berlin schools, according to the Olentangy Local Schools website.
The district already has a Hyatts Middle School.
The district received more than 700 submissions for the fifth high school name. The top-submitted name was for Concord High School, after Concord Township. However, district officials said the new school is being built close to the township but is not inside it.
Other naming suggestions included included Sawmill, Station, Stratford and Delaware.
Olentangy Local School officialsbroke ground in June on the district's fifth high school, this one located in Delaware city near the intersection Bunty Station Road and Sawmill Parkway.
Construction on Hyatts High School began over the summer, and the building will open in fall 2028. A mascot and boundaries will be determined at a later meeting.
The 300,000-square-foot high school will feature outdoor athletics facilities, and indoor amenities including an 800-seat auditorium, main and auxiliary gyms, weight room, media center, commons and a café.

In 2025, Olentangy voters approved a $235 million bond levy, with 56% of voters in favor of the proposal. The district will use the bond money to build the fifth high school, its 18th elementary school and improve some of its current facilities or build new ones.
The district broke ground in March on its 18th elementary school, which was later named Deer Haven Elementary School. It is expected to open in August 2027.
