Two people were critically injured after they jumped from a 2½-story building to escape an apartment fire on Columbus' Near East Side, a city Division of Fire spokesperson said.
The 911 dispatch center received a call around 11:30 a.m. about a fire at 1070 E. Fulton St, said Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Brian Barnhart. Dispatchers reported people trapped on the second floor and a back porch of the structure.
Two people were transported in critical condition to Ohio State University Medical Center, Barnhart said.
Smoke appeared to be emanating from the second floor and attic area of the structure. Firefighters battling the blaze reported they were trying to break through from an interior wall to get active fire in a front room.
