Ohio State football coach Ryan Day expects defensive end Zion Grady and offensive lineman Phillip Daniels to be available soon after both left the Texas game when they got hurt on Sept. 12.
"I don't see those being long-term injuries," Day said. "We'll kind of see how this week goes to see if we can get them ready for Saturday. We'll probably know later in the week."
Grady, who recorded his first start in the season opener against Ball State on Sept. 5, exited the 24-23 loss to the Longhorns with 9:48 left in the second quarter. Texas ran on a first-down play, and Grady suffered a right knee sprain, according to WBNS Radio, 97.1 The Fan.
The sophomore struggled to put weight on his right leg when walking to the medical tent, but he did return to the sideline
and was able to work out on the exercise bike.
Daniels went down with a suspected lower-body injury with 6:20 remaining in the game, while Ohio State was making its second-to-last drive. Gabe VanSickle entered for Daniels and slotted in at right guard, shifting Austin Siereveld to Daniels' position at right tackle.
Day had rotated VanSickle in for Daniels during the Ball State game, as Ohio State experimented with different offensive line options. However, Daniels played all 58 offensive snaps before getting injured against Texas.
"I think he was playing well," Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin said. "He's somebody who protects the quarterback with his life. He's somebody who I had a lot of confidence in out there."
The offensive line allowed the Longhorns to sack Sayin twice, both times in the second half.
Ohio State will host Kent State on Sept. 19 at noon.
