The Blue Jackets are parting ways with Bob McElligott, their longtime radio play-by-play broadcaster.
While announcing a shift from separate TV and radio broadcasts to simulcasting its TV broadcast onto radio, the team said McElligott's contract wasn't renewed.
“Bob McElligott has made significant contributions to the Blue Jackets organization on the air and in the community over the past 17 years,” Blue Jackets vice president of business intelligence and broadcasting Marc Gregory said in a statement. “Bob’s voice was at the heart of many of our club’s unforgettable moments and helped shape memories that will live on for years to come. him nothing but success moving forward.”
The Blue Jackets recently announced the NHL will produce their TV broadcasts, but have yet to announce which platform will air games called by play-by-play broadcaster Steve Mears and analyst Jody Shelley, team employees.
Mears and Shelley will now be heard on both television and radio calls, while Dylan Tyrer will remain in his roles as studio host for Blue Jackets radio broadcasts and video host for select in-house video productions.
