Starbucks plans to close locations across North America this week, including at least one confirmed location in Ohio.
In a message to employees on Sept. 24, 2026, Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams said the company will close approximately 250 coffeehouses in North America, which represents about 1% of its more than 18,000 locations.
The stores will close "later this week," according to Grams' letter. The coffeehouse chain also did not provide a list of the approximately 250 affected locations, according to USA TODAY.

Which Starbucks stores are closing in Ohio?
As of Sept. 24, when Starbucks announced the closures, the only Ohio location publicly identified was a store at 1014 N. High St. in Columbus, according
to KGW 8.
Why is Starbucks closing 250 locations?
Grams said the decision to shutter locations is part of the company's "Back to Starbucks" turnaround plan.
Starbucks notes that it identified stores that could not consistently deliver the experience it wanted for customers and employees or lacked a path to acceptable financial performance.
Despite the downsize, Starbucks said its North American business has returned to strong growth, citing faster service, coffeehouse upgrades and implementation of its "Green Apron Service" standard.
Starbucks closes three Ohio locations in 2025
After being sued by employees over its dress code in 2025, Starbucks cut more than 900 jobs and closed hundreds of coffeehouses in September 2025 as part of a $1 billion restructuring effort. The chain confirmed its plans to shutter three of pickup-only locations in Ohio:
- Columbus: Ohio State University, Neil Ave. and 11th Ave.
- Oxford: Miami University Bell Tower, 401 E. High St.
- Hamilton: Princeton Glendale Road
Starbucks operated 524 coffeehouse in Ohio at the time of the 2025 closures.
How many Starbucks locations are in Ohio?
Starbucks operates 521 coffeehouses in Ohio, according to ScrapeHero. But Starbucks has not released a full list of affected stores, so it remains unclear whether additional Ohio locations will close.
