Columbus police dispatchers confirmed the shooting occurred on 6th Street near 7th Avenue. Calls to 911 started coming in at 3:19 p.m.
The child was rushed to Nationwide Children's Hospital and remains in critical condition. The incident produced conflicting details, with police dispatch stating they've received reports about an accidental self-inflicted wound or the possibility of an adult shooter.
Police are searching for a possible suspect, dispatchers confirmed.
