September is not over, but Columbus has already received nearly three times the rain it typically sees by this point in the month.
The city recorded 6.89 inches of precipitation through Sept. 23, according to the National Weather Service. The normal amount through that date is 2.47 inches, putting Columbus 4.42 inches ahead of pace.
Rain fell on several days throughout the month. The heaviest daily total so far was 1.37 inches on Sept. 12,according to NWS daily data. Another 1.21 inches fell Sept. 20, matching the rainfall record for that date shown in the weather service's records table.
The wet September follows an unusually rainy August. Through Sept. 23, Columbus had received 43.59 inches of precipitation since the start of 2026, compared with
a normal 32.08 inches by that date.
With a few days remaining in September, the month's final rainfall total – and its place in the historical rankings – has yet to be determined. Rain, however, is not forecasted to return until Sept. 30.
