Homicide detectives are investigating after police found a person fatally shot near a vehicle they were pursuing and a second person arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound.
At 2:41 a.m. Aug. 3, Columbus police officers responded to a request for backup from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, which was pursuing a vehicle in the area of Mooberry Street and Miller Avenue in Driving Park, Columbus police Sgt. Joe Albert said.
The vehicle was found at Manning Avenue and Kent Street, Albert said. Officers arrived and started looking for the people in the vehicle. They found an unresponsive male with what appeared to be a gunshot wound at Rhoads Avenue and Gault Street a few blocks away.
He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition
and died soon after, Albert said.
At 2:54 a.m., a gunshot victim walked into OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, Albert said. That victim told police they were shot in the area of West Cherry Street and South Wall street downtown.
Homicide detectives are investigating at several crime scenes in that area, Albert said.
Police have not identified the person who died or said how the shooting happened.
