Which central Ohio high school football players had top Week 3 games?

The No. 1 effort on The Dispatch’s list of top performers during Week 3 of the high school football season became apparent throughout the first Friday night of September.

Other entrants on this week’s list

qualified as much for the timeliness of their achievements as for their final numbers.

Here is a look at which central Ohio players had the best games in Week 3.

This list was gathered from games covered by the USA Today Network and statistics submitted to The Dispatch by area teams. 1. Shawn Rice, Worthington Kilbourne

Statistics: The junior receiver enjoyed a career night, catching 12 passes for 254 yards and five touchdowns as the Wolves (3-0) routed Canal Winchester 56-35. Kilbourne quarterback Jackson Szabo threw for 414 yards and seven scores. Each of these individual marks represented a single-game record for the program.

2. Trey Bentley, Jonathan Alder

Stats: The junior wide receiver/defensive back totaled 220 yards and two touchdowns – including a 73-yard catch-and-run during which he lost a shoe – and made four tackles for loss as the Pioneers (3-0) won 34-14 at Bloom-Carroll.

3. Tyler Harr, Mount Gilead

Stats: The senior had nine carries for 200 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 77 yards and a score in Mount Gilead’s (2-1) 42-7 win over Grove City Christian. Mount Gilead racked up 405 of its 488 yards on the ground.

4. Jackson McMillan, Granville

Stats: The senior quarterback completed 16 of 20 passes for 259 yards and five touchdowns – four of them in the second quarter – in the Blue Aces’ 35-12 win over Johnstown. Granville (2-1) won its ninth straight in the rivalry.

5. Declan O’Neil, Hilliard Bradley

Stats: The senior quarterback completed 12 of 15 passes for 211 yards and four touchdowns, leading a 533-yard night for the Jaguars (2-1) in a 56-21 rout of previously undefeated Grove City. Rashaud Truss added 189 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.

Stats: The senior running back amassed 239 yards and touchdowns of 5, 7 and 50 yards on 26 carries in Canal’s (1-2) loss to Kilbourne.

7. Memphis Book, West Jefferson

Stats: The sophomore running back ran for 116 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries and led the defense with seven tackles as the Roughriders (2-1) routed Springfield Greenon 62-28.

8. Xander Matchack, Watkins Memorial

Stats: The sophomore turned four of his 13 carries into touchdowns, scoring from 17, 35, 11 and 10 yards in the Warriors’ first victory of the season, 41-7 at Mansfield Senior. Matchack finished with 87 yards.

9. Wyatt Arver, North Union

Stats: The senior scored three touchdowns on seven carries, finishing with 75 yards on the ground, and added five tackles at linebacker as the Wildcats (3-0) won 41-14 at Galion Northmor.

10. Camden Stephens, Heath

Stats: The senior safety’s interception with 39 seconds left preserved a 24-18 win over Columbus Academy, the Bulldogs’ second in a row after a season-opening loss. Heath scored 21 points in the second half, including the winning touchdown with 1:11 left.
