One person was killed Oct. 1 after crashing into a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the side of a highway entrance ramp in Hamilton Township, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
A 2024 Freightliner tow truck towing a tractor-trailer was stopped on the side of the U.S. 23 south entrance ramp from Interstate 270 east at around 5:50 p.m. when a 2018 Chevrolet utility truck traveling south on that same ramp went off the road, traveled through a ditch and struck the trailer as it was being towed.
The driver and only occupant of the Chevrolet utility truck was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus Division of Fire medics at 6:06 p.m., the sheriff's office said. As of the evening of Oct. 1, the driver had not been publicly identified.
The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured in the crash, the sheriff's office said.
The fatal collision is under investigation by the sheriff's office Crash Investigation Unit. Anyone with information on the crash can contact the unit at 614-525-6113.
