The Edwin Arroyo test drive is done for now.

The Cincinnati Redsoptioned their top infield prospect back to Triple-A Louisville ahead of Thursday's series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates and activated Matt McLain from the injured list to take his place on the roster.

McLain has spent the past three weeks on the IL because of a calf strain. He has struggled this season at the plate (.190 with eight homers, .622 OPS) but is one of the team's best fielders at any position.

That last quality was supposed to be Arroyo's strength, but the young middle infielder was mistake-prone during his two-month debut, including five errors. Arroyo, a projected

big-league shortstop, spent almost all of his playing time for the Reds at second base.

The Reds also recalled right-hander Zach McCambley from Louisville and optioned righty Chase Petty.
