Power is out for over 170,000 Duke Energy customers along a 70-mile stretch through Cincinnati and dozens of other surrounding communities after high winds and thunderstorms pummeled the region on Aug. 11.
Duke Energy reported most of the outages started around 3 p.m. as the National Weather Service issued multiple tornado warnings in the Cincinnati area.
The outages stretch from Weisburg, Indiana to Russellville, Ohio. About 141,000 Ohio customers are affected along with more than 30,000 in Kentucky and another 3,000 in Indiana.
While the outages are widespread, there are major clusters in centering around Hyde Park with 15,000 customers affected, Mount Airy with 10,000, Norwood with 4,000 and an outage south of Newtown affecting 6,000 customers.
Cincinnati wasn't the only major city hit by the Aug. 11 storm. Power was knocked out for 100,000 customers in and around Columbus. In the Indianapolis area, about 43,000 customers were without power.
For most of the outages around Cincinnati, Duke Energy is not reporting when power is expected to be restored, but crews are already out addressing down lines.
