The Los Angeles Dodgers' Teoscar Hernández delivered quite a compliment after Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz made a remarkable throw to home plate, to prevent Hernández from stretching a triple into an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the third inning Sept. 8 at Dodger Stadium.
"I think he's the only one who can throw me out in that situation," Hernández said of De La Cruz.
Hernández added that it would have been his first inside-the-park home run as a pro at any level, per FOX Sports' Rowan Kavner, and that he thought he was close to scoring until he watched the replay.
"He is a video game character," Reds.TV play-by-play announcer John Sadak said during the broadcast. "He just uncorked a throw that, if this is accurate, Statcast
says he threw that ball to home plate … at 105.3 miles per hour! 105.3! Is this man real?"
The Reds reported that the update on the speed of the throw was 102.0 MPH.
"That was one of the better throws you'll ever see. I mean ever," Reds manager Terry Francona said after the game.
