Contractors needed six months to remove about a fifth of Downtown's historic Longworth Hall.
Videographers captured the semi-demolition job in less than a minute.
In 55 seconds, a time-lapsed video shows heavy equipment taking down about 200 feet from the east end of Longworth to make way for the newest bridge over the Ohio River.
Work on the new bridge – located to the immediate west of the Brent Spence – officially began with a May 8 groundbreaking event.

Next for Longworth: A new end with old bricks
Longworth Hall, located at 700 W. Pete Rose Way, was built in 1904 as a railroad freight warehouse. Dates of note in recent years include:
- 1961: Lost about 150 feet, later restored, to the construction of Interstate 75 on the Cincinnati side of the Ohio.
- 1985: Sold to Roy and Ron Schweitzer and Rudy Hermes, with the Schweitzers taking ownership soon after.
- 1986: Placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
- 2023: Sold to Ohio Department of Transportation.
With the removal of 210 feet of the building, contractors will next rebuild the east end
using bricks recovered from the demolition. They'll also clean the exterior, replace deteriorating brick and mortar, and improve exterior windows.
