Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Ventrell Miller was not fined for his hit of Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase during the second quarter of the Jags' NFL Week 4 win at Paycor Stadium, the league announced Oct. 10.
As the Bengals evaluated Chase for a concussion and ruled him out for the the rest of the game, CBS analyst Robert Turbin explained that he couldn't believe Miller wasn't penalized for the hit that injured Chase after Chase's four-yard reception from quarterback Joe Burrow.
Jags defensive back Jarrian Jones grabbed Chase's facemask, and was penalized. Miller delivered his hit when Chase was on the ground, and wasn't flagged.
Jones was fined $8,201 for the facemask infraction.
There were three additional fines announced from the
Week 4 game. The Jags' Travon Walker was fined $11,941 for taunting in the fourth quarter. Bengals defensive ends Boye Mafe and Myles Murphy were fined $11,941 each for facemask penalties.
Chase is listed as questionable on the Bengals' injury report ahead of a Week 5 game in Miami.
"I'm still really shocked there was no foul called on that play leading with the crown of his helmet," Turbin said early in the third quarter of the broadcast.
Near the end of the first half, Turbin and play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy said they were surprised Jones wasn't penalized for pass interference on a long pass attempt from Burrow to receiver Tee Higgins, who suffered an adductor injury later in the game.
Late in the fourth quarter, Turbin and McCarthy thought officials missed a pass-interference penalty by Jones on an incomplete pass on first down from Burrow to receiver Dohnte Meyers.
