Need to fill up your car? Beware of high gas prices.
The cost of unleaded regular gasoline is as high as $4.59 per gallon at some Greater Cincinnati gas stations Sept. 16.
The Marathon on 2340 Gilbert Ave., the Sunoco on 5450 Glenway Ave., and the United Dairy Farmers on 3172 Linwood Ave. are each selling a gallon of gas for $4.59, according to gas price tracker GasBuddy.
As of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, the average price of a gallon of gas in the Cincinnati metro area was $4.362 per gallon, according to data from GasBuddy. That's up 6.2 cents from the day before, 19.1 cents higher than last week's average and about 25 cents more than a month ago. The average price of gas is about $1.25 higher than average this time last year of $3.115, according to the gas price tracker.
Why are gas prices so high?
The main reason gas prices are surging is the Iran war, according to a USA Today report. The war has disrupted transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a Middle Eastern waterway used for transporting a large percentage of the world's petroleum.
Since war erupted in the region, there's an international supply bottleneck that has driven gas prices to historical highs in America. California is at an average of $6.03 a gallon. Prices in states known for cheaper gas, like Texas, are at an average of $3.87 a gallon.
Where is the cheapest gas in Greatest Cincinnati?
As of 8:30 a.m., the lowest gas price is $3.79 per gallon and can be found at Wawa on 7481 Montgomery Road, United Dairy Farmers on 4101 E Galbraith Road, and Wawa at 2335 Water Tower Drive.
The gas station with the second-lowest price is QuikTrip on 44 Progress Place with gas for $3.84 per gallon, according to Gas Buddy's local map of gas prices.

- $4.07 per gallon at United Dairy Farmers on 3641 Montgomery Road.
- $4.09 per gallon at Sunoco 1318 Madison Ave. in Covington.
- $4.09 per gallon at Shell on 901 W 8th St.
