The region is in line for several rounds of showers and thunderstorms as a stalled weather boundary remains parked across the Ohio Valley early Thursday, Sept. 10. While not everyone will see heavy rain all day, the biggest concern is that storms may repeatedly move over the same locations, leading to localized flooding.

Rain has already soaked parts of southern Ohio, and forecasters expect additional waves of storms through the day. Another round is possible this
afternoon and evening, when confidence is highest that widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop.
Significant flooding was occurring in parts of Highland and Pike counties early Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. A Flash Flood Warning was issued for portions of Highland, Pike and Ross counties with some locations receiving over four inches of rain, with additional rounds of rain moving in.
The clouds and rain will also keep temperatures in check. Highs around Cincinnati are expected to top out in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees, a few degrees cooler than normal for early September.
When to expect rain Thursday
The first round moved in overnight. The second round was expected in the early morning.
Another round is possible this afternoon and evening, when confidence is highest that widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop.
A few stronger storms cannot be ruled out. Forecasters say isolated damaging wind gusts are possible, especially farther south, but the overall severe weather threat remains limited.
What comes next
There is some good news heading into the weekend. Friday looks much drier as the front sags south of the region, likely giving most of Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky a break from the persistent rain.
The reprieve may be short-lived, though. Another weather system is expected to arrive Saturday, bringing renewed chances for showers and thunderstorms before warmer weather returns.
By Sunday and into next week, temperatures are expected to climb back above normal, with a stretch of warmer late-summer weather settling into the Cincinnati area.
