Rebel Creamery files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
Rebel Creamery LLC, seller of Rebel Ice Cream at major retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Kroger, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after losing a trademark infringement lawsuit judgment, according to The Street.
Following the lawsuit, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Aug. 14 to restructure its debts. The petition listed $10 million to $50 million in assets and liabilities.
The ice cream was known to be a diet-friendly option, with low-carb, high-fat, no-sugar-added keto ice cream in 20 different flavors.
Van Leeuwen filed the lawsuit against Rebel Creamery
Van Leeuwen, another popular ice cream brand,
filed a lawsuit against Rebel Ice Cream, alleging it violated Van Leeuwen's trademark rights and copied its branding, and ordered Rebel Creamery to redesign its ice cream packaging.
This lawsuit was filed in 2021. Van Leeuwen is entitled to $23.8 million from Rebel Creamery in disgorged profits after a court order.
Kroger, Giant Eagle, Meijer sell Rebel Creamery ice cream
