Attention Cincinnati foodies, it's time to check your freezers.
Cincinnati-based pizzeria St. Francis Apizza issued a voluntary recall Oct. 2 for its frozen pizza after discovering the labels didn't list soy as an ingredient. The pizzeria said the pan spray used in the kitchen where the frozen pizza is prepped contains soy lecithin, which poses a risk for anyone with a soy allergy.
"Once we realized this, we immediately stopped all sales of our frozen pizzas in our shops and notified our wholesale partners that they needed to pull the frozen pizzas from their retail displays as well, which they did immediately," the pizzeria wrote in a Facebook post. "We then added a label to every single frozen pizza, correctly listing the ingredients, in our shops and in our wholesale partners'
shops."
So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products, however, people with an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. Individuals exhibiting signs or symptoms of an allergic reaction should contact a physician immediately.
In its Facebook post, St. Francis Apizza said they completely removed the pan spray that was being used and replaced it with one that is 100% organic extra virgin olive oil (with no other ingredients).
