Publix announced the grand opening date for its Independence location, the latest step in the grocery chain's expansion into Kroger's backyard.
The Independence store will open Oct. 28, three weeks after
Publix will open its Florence location. The 48,387-square-foot store will also feature an adjacent Publix Liquors.
The address for the store is 5135 Jenkins Drive, right off Madison Pike and almost directly across from a Kroger Marketplace.
When open, the store will be Publix's fourth Northern Kentucky location, with a fifth still under construction in Hebron.
Pub sub lovers rejoice
Publix is a Florida-based retail chain with a cult-like following of shoppers who swear by its sub sandwiches, sweet tea and weekly buy-one-get-one deals.
Publix operates 1,444 stores. It's one of the 10 largest-volume supermarket chains in the country, according to its website.
Its first Kentucky store opened in Louisville in early 2024. It has expanded to have at least seven stores in the state so far.
Florence location to open shortly before
The 58,817-square-foot Florence location is scheduled to open on Oct. 7 at Farmview Commons.
In August, the company announced it was hiring 280 people to work at both locations.
Where are the Northern Kentucky stores?
In total, the popular grocery store will have five stores throughout Northern Kentucky.
- Triple Crown Shopping Center: The 55,701 square-foot store has an adjacent liquor store and Publix Pours bar and cafe. It was the first to open in Northern Kentucky in March 2025. It's located at 430 Richwood Road near Walton.
- Cold Spring Point: Publix is the anchor store of a 52-acre development in Campbell County. The 48,387 square-foot store was the second Publix to open in Northern Kentucky. It's located at 5401 Alexandria Pike in Cold Spring.
- Farmview Commons: A roughly 56,000-square-foot store with an attached 3,200-square-foot liquor store and a drive-through pharmacy will be the third Publix in Northern Kentucky. It will be located at the Farmview Commons, which borders Florence and Union on U.S. Highway 42. It's located at 8740 U.S. 42.
- Independence: A 48,387-square-foot facility and 3,200-square-foot liquor store on nearly 20 acres at the northeast intersection of Madison Pike and Harris Pike, roughly located in central Kenton County.
- Hebron: The 50,325-square-foot store will be at the southwest corner of Williams Road and Worldwide Boulevard at a development called The Shoppes at Hebron Pointe.
