Boar’s Head deli products are back at Kroger’s store at Newport Pavilion and will soon return to other local stores where they disappeared, a Kroger spokesperson told The Enquirer.
The Cincinnati-based supermarket giant confirmed in Septemberthat three larger format Marketplace stores in Newport, Kentucky, Anderson Township and West Chester were out of the popular premium deli brand. On Oct. 5, the grocer confirmed it was coming back to its stores and should be restored to previous stock levels in the coming weeks.
The Kroger spokesperson declined to discuss the reason for the disruption or how it has been resolved. Officials with Boar’s Head did not respond for immediate comment.
Some industry observers and store officials speculated the disruption
was due to a standoff between Kroger and a supplier. As of Aug. 31, Kroger has also stopped selling Red Bullenergy drinks without explanation.

Kroger woos 'under pressure' shoppers
The disruptions come as the grocer’s newly-minted CEO Greg Foran has vowed to lower prices as cash-strapped consumers fight creeping inflation. Foran is seeking to jumpstart Kroger’s sales growth by emphasizing value and affordable options.
Though he mentioned no suppliers by name, Foran told Wall Street analysts on a Sept. 11 conference call he’s pushing back against suppliers “using inflation” to boost their sales when customers were clearly "under pressure."
Rising prices have dogged consumers for much of this decade. As of August, the price of food at the grocery store has shot up more than 31% since March 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic – outpacing overall inflation that climbed 29% in the same period, according to data by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Kroger is major U.S. retailer
