The Cincinnati Bengals dropped to 2-2 after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 4 at Paycor Stadium.
Quarterback Joe Burrow had a chance to deliver a game-winning drive for the Bengals when he got the ball back with 1:44 to play and down five points. Burrow led the Bengals down the field and had four chances inside the 21-yard line to get the ball in the end zone. The Bengals were unable to score on their final offensive possession and lost 22-17.
Burrow made a critical mistake at the start of the fourth quarter, and it cost the team a chance to take the lead in a game it trailed the entire first half. He threw two interceptions in the loss − the first led to a Jacksonville touchdown.
Strangely, Burrow played well, minus the two turnovers.
It’s why this loss is hard to explain. Cincinnati and Jacksonville nearly had the same number of total yards. The game came down to the turnovers.
Burrow completed 39 of 54 passes for 428 yards and one touchdown.
The Jaguars (3-1) are one of the AFC’s best teams. Still, the Bengals offense needs to be operating at a higher level.
