The Ohio High School Athletic Association field hockey regional brackets have been released and for the first time since 2020, Mount Notre Dame is not the top seed in Southwest Ohio.
Back in 2020, Ursuline Academy had the top seed, but Indian Hill won the tournament. Six years later, Indian Hill has the top regional seed.
Indian Hill, coached by Emily Betz in her first year at the school after coming over from Summit Country Day, is 14-1 and undefeated in its league. The Braves, only with a 5-2 loss to Kentucky's duPont Manual, beat Mount Notre Dame 2-1 in overtime with a game-winning goal from Nella Grace Lewellen on Oct. 6.
There are eight seeds in the regional bracket. Indian Hill is in the top portion and Mount Notre Dame in the bottom.
The
tournament opens on Oct. 19 with No. 3 Ursuline Academy meeting No. 6 Walnut Hills. The winner of that game will meet either Indian Hill or No. 8 Summit Country Day after their game on Oct. 20. Mount Notre Dame and No. 7 Fairmont play on Oct. 21 with the winner meeting the winner of the Oct. 22 game between No. 4 St. Ursula and No. 5 Oakwood.
The regional final will be at 11 a.m. on Oct. 31 at Oakwood's Lane Stadium.
The winner of the Southwest region will meet the winner of the Central 1 region in the state semifinals at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Thomas Worthington. Thomas Worthington also will host the state final at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
Thomas Worthington, winner of the last four state championships and 10 titles overall, is the top seed in Central 1.
St. Ursula became Cincinnati's only field hockey state champion in 2010, beating Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown 1-0 in the semifinals and Thomas Worthington 1-0 in the championship. The Bulldogs were the last Cincinnati team to reach the state finals and only the third since the tournament began in 1979, joining Indian Hill in 2000 and Mount Notre Dame in 2004.
