Remnants of Hurricane Isaias have arrived in downtown Cincinnati as Blink's third day gets underway, and the festival is planning to make changes if necessary.
The rainy weather could affect some of the festival's installations, and it has already prompted the cancelation of two events Saturday, Oct. 10, organizers announced in a news release.
Here's what you need to know about how weather could impact your experience with the more than 80 light installations.
How will weather affect Blink Cincinnati?
[1:06 PM] Precip from Isaias' remnants is beginning to move north into Ohio. Most of the area will see 0.5-1.5 inches thru Sunday afternoon, w/ highest amounts south/east of I-71. A news release stated Blink "is designed to be experienced rain or shine." However, even light rain stops some projections and live events. If wind reaches 30 mph, the festival said it activates emergency protocols.
Here's a breakdown of how Blink said it makes weather decisions.
- Light rain: Select projection installations and live performances will be suspended, while most projections may continue operating.
- Sustained rain: Additional installations will close as conditions warrant.
- Heavy, sustained rain: Projection and installation sites will close if persistent, driving rain causes water to pool around electrical equipment.
- Strong winds: Certain installations, including inflatable elements, will be secured when winds reach their established safety thresholds. If winds reach 30 mph, all festival sites, including hospitality areas, will close under Blink's emergency response and safety protocols.
Blink said it was working with public safety officials to closely monitor weather conditions. "Visitors are asked for patience and understanding if certain installations or activities need to be adjusted," the release stated.
Two Blink events canceled ahead of rainy forecast
A DJ set and fashion show have been canceled ahead of Blink on Saturday, according to the release.
The DJ activation was part of the Cincinnati Skatepark Project activation. Asha Ama's Voyage to Atlantis fashion show was scheduled to occur at the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame.
