Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy could become the third-richest elected official if elected later this year, according to Forbes.
The global media company, known for its business and finance reporting, wrote that if Ramaswamy wins Ohio's 2026 gubernatorial election in November, the 41-year-old businessman-turned-politician would become the nation's second-richest governor and third-wealthiest elected official.
Per the Sept. 20 report, Ramaswamy, whose net worth Forbes estimates at $2.3 billion, would rank behind only President Donald Trump, worth an estimated $7 billion, and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, whose fortune is estimated at $4.2 billion.
If Ramaswamy wins against Democrat opponent Amy Acton, then he will also become
Ohio’s first billionaire governor, according to a previous Enquirer report.
Ramaswamy's fortune largely stems from Roivant Sciences, the pharmaceutical research company he founded in 2014. Roivant Sciences struck a deal in 2021 that valued the company at $7.3 billion, according to Forbes.
He also founded Strive Asset Management in 2022, an investment firm that seeks to steer companies away from political and social activism. Additionally, Ramaswamy owns stock in data center companies Amazon, Microsoft and Nvidia, according to his most recent financial disclosure form.
In 2023, he reported investing between $1 million and $5 million in Microsoft, which is building data centers across the country, according to disclosures reported in the New York Times.
Ramaswamy's wealth far exceeds that of his Democratic opponent, Amy Acton. The Columbus Dispatch reported that he has invested $30 million in his gubernatorial campaign after contributing nearly $29 million to his failed 2024 presidential bid.
Last week, Acton pledged not to own or invest in individual stocks if elected governor and called on Ramaswamy to make the same commitment. However, Ramaswamy's spokesman Evan Machan has not said whether the Republican candidate would divest his individual stock holdings.
