Campbell County Coroner Mark Schweitzer, who served the community for nearly three decades, has died, according to the Kentucky Coroners Association. He was 59.
His death occurred Thursday, Oct. 1, following a fall, according to a report from the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office.
First elected in 1998, Schweitzer had held the office for 28 years and was running unopposed for reelection this November.
Throughout his career, colleagues noted his dedication to guiding local families through their most difficult moments.
“In a job where we are supporting others whose worlds are collapsing around them, we are being tested today to support our own worlds,” the Campbell County Coroner’s Office said in a statement. “We will persevere and continue to take
on the responsibilities of those who have departed.”
Funeral arrangements are pending at Dobbling, Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Bellevue, according to the Kentucky Coroners Association.
Campbell County Judge-Executive Steve Pendery will appoint someone to fill the vacancy.
