The Cincinnati Bengals shared a heartwarming video of wide receivers coach Troy Walters telling receiver Dohnte Meyers he made the team's 53-man roster.
"Today's kind of a bittersweet day, man," Walters told Meyers over FaceTime. "The sweet part about it is I get to tell a guy who worked out for us last December, came from the (CFL) and then we signed in February … spent hours in the coaches' office studying the playbook … made plays in the preseason. I just wanted to personally tell you congratulations for making the 53-man roster."
"'Preciate it, coach," an emotional Meyers said.
"Your hard work, everything paid off, man," Walters continued. "Proud of you. And now this is just the beginning, right? You're gonna play a big role in our success
on offense and on special teams. Help us win a Super Bowl."
"Yessir! Yessir, coach! 'Preciate it! 'Preciate it!" Meyers said.
Walters asked Meyers how he was feeeling.
'Preciate it, coach! 'Preciate it!" Meyers replied, while appearing to fight back tears.
"You deserve it, man, you worked your butt off," Walters said. "I look forward to helping you continue to grow. Let's make some plays and get after it."
"Let's get it goin'!" Meyers said. "Let's get it goin'!"
On the Bengals' first offensive series of their final preseason game in Philadelphia, Meyers impressed while catching three Josh Johnson passes for 51 receiving yards.
"One of my favorite stories in the NFL right now," CBS color analyst Ross Tucker said during the broadcast. "He's got some serious quicks. We'll talk about him pretty much as long as he's in (this game). This is a guy that had to pay $100 to try out for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL. And this week he was getting reps with the 1s with Joe Burrow. I can't get enough of the Dohnte Meyers story."
"He might be riding right onto the 53-man roster," play-by-play announcer Andrew Catalon said.
"This is unbelievable," Tucker added. "You don't really gameplan in the preseason, but maybe the Eagles should have. Because Dohnte Meyers has been fantastic all preseason. The Bengals love him. And right now no one from the Eagles - not only can they not cover him, they can't get within three yards of that young man."
Meyers also earned praise from teammate and starting quarterback Joe Burrow after the team's 16-14 preseason win against Detroit at Paycor Stadium.
"Dohnte looked really good," Burrow said after the game. "He's looked good all camp. ... He just loves ball. The week before training camp, I texted him, 'Hey, are you in town?' He's like, 'I can be.' I was like, 'Can you be here tomorrow at 11?' He was like, 'Yeah.' Come to find out he drove from Atlanta that night to be there to throw the next day."
"That's the kind of guy that he is," Burrow continued. "He's had a great camp. He's quick, shifty, understands what we're trying to do. He's played a lot in the CFL. … He's got a lot of reps under his belt. He's a guy that we've seen a lot out of."
Meyers joined the Bengals on a reserve/future contract in January 2026, after spending the previous two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League.
