An improved riverfront 20 miles east of Cincinnati is set to open to the public Oct. 16.
Liberty Landing, the $13.4 million riverfront redevelopment project in New Richmond, kicked off in August 2025. The new riverfront will now have a marina and "sweeping overlooks of the Ohio River," according to a Clermont County press release. The project also added a brick plaza with a large sign that says "New Richmond Liberty Landing Est. 1814," metal tables, park benches and streetlights.
The redevelopment also widened parts of Front Street, its commercial district, by 25 feet.
Redevelopment part of state-backed effort
Liberty Landing is part of a years-long effort to improve the waterfront in New Richmond, a village of around 2,800 in Clermont County.
New Richmond received $13.4 million from Ohio
Wonderful Waterfronts Initiative for the redevelopment in 2024. This initiative funded 21 economic development projects across Ohio Appalachian waterfront to help communities "expand access to local waterways, revitalize historic riverfront downtowns, and create new tourism and recreational opportunities," according to a governor's office press release. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine even attendedLiberty Landing's groundbreaking in August. 2025.
Village officials have also tried to find ways to attract more visitors to New Richmond after the Beckjord Power Station, which employed over 100 in the village, closed in 2014.
This included trying to make their riverfront home to the Showboat Majestic, an over-100-year-old floating theater. However, the village decided in 2022 to abandon the historic vessel, which had moored along its riverbank, after officials lost patience with its owner.
