An Over-The-Rhine bar is closing four months after police said a woman was sexually assaulted by a stranger in the bathroom.
Alice on Main Street announced in an Aug. 4 Instagram post the bar would soon
shut its doors. It's final day will be Saturday, Sept. 11.
In late April, Cincinnati police said a stranger strangled a woman and sexually assaulted her in the bar's restroom. The September post did not state whether the alleged assault spurred the decision to close.
"We simply can’t continue with the conditions as they are in their current form," Alice's management stated.
A question for clarification about what prompted the closure was not answered in time of publication.
Bar changed policies after alleged assault
Bar security knocked twice on the restroom door while both people were in the bathroom that night, but received "verbal OK's at minimum" on each interaction, according to a statement by Alice's Management one month after the alleged assault.
"Something serious was clearly going wrong, but it was outside our view," the bar stated in May.
In a previous statement, the bar's management said the incident was a "policy failure of allowing two guests into the same restroom."
Management has also said they would now have "much stricter enforcement" of a one-person-per-restroom policy.
Alice has said a new manager has overhauled its training program and plans are in place to redesign the restrooms entirely following the alleged assault.
The Cincinnati Police Department not respond to a question in time of publication regarding if any arrests had been made. In April, the department posted, then deleted, a Facebook news release with a still image from video surveillance of a man wearing a gray sweatshirt
