Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region is now offering telehealth treatment for people with herpes simplex virus, or HSV, according to a press release from the organization.
Using Planned Parenthood Direct, the app used to connect people to sexual and reproductive health services across the country, patients in Ohio who are at least 18 and have been diagnosed with HSV-1 or HSV-2 can receive treatment without leaving their homes.
Patients complete a confidential questionnaire that is reviewed by a licensed provider, no video required. The provider can then prescribe treatment if needed and ship it discreetly and directly to the patient's home or a local pharmacy. Treatment is available for active outbreaks and prevention. Patients who need to be diagnosed
can visit a local Planned Parenthood health center to get tested.
The expansion of Planned Parenthood telehealth services for HSV comes after federal funding cuts forced the closure of 50 Planned Parenthood health centers in 2025, including clinics in Springfield and Hamilton.
“We built this service so patients with HSV can receive essential treatment from trusted Planned Parenthood providers from wherever they are, with complete privacy and with zero judgment,” said Laura Mackay, president and CEO of PPDirect.
