Cincinnati police shot and killed a man after responding to a call for an active shooter on Sept. 25.
Police received a call around 7:45 p.m. at Talbert House in University Heights on Central Parkway, a department official said.

Police exchanged gunfire in populated building

Police and SWAT were shot at while approached the door four-story homeless shelter. They returned fire.
The man ran north through the hallway and police exchanged another round of gunfire with him. He was struck an unknown number of times and died en route to the hospital, according to department spokesperson Brad Underwood.
No one else injured, police say
No police officers were injured, Underwood said.
At the scene, Interim Police Chief Adam Hennie
also said at the scene that "it does not appear that there are any other victims inside the building."
In a Facebook post, Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police President Ken Kober said the suspect was possibly attempting to shoot others.
"The officers quickly and decisively ended the threat, ensuring that no innocent victims would be harmed," Kober said. "These officers’ actions are worthy of our highest praise."
Shooter's relationship to Talbert House is unclear
Talbert House is an accredited and licensed community provider for mental health and substance use programs.
The organization owns multiple properties throughout Southwest Ohio and provides housing services "focused on empowering adults, veterans and families to sustain their independence," according to its website.
Underwood said it was not yet clear whether the man was staying there.
First fatal police shooting at Talbert House since 2018
In 2018, Cincinnati police fatally shot James Clay at a Talbert House property in Walnut Hills.
Police were attempting to arrest Clay, who was a suspect in a violent robbery. Clay pulled out a pellet gun which police thought was real.
An officer fatally shot him.
Police to hold press conference
The Cincinnati Police Department plans on holding a press conference on Sept. 26 to discuss the shooting, Underwood said.
A time and location has yet to be announced as of 10:15 a.m.
Sixth fatal shooting by Cincinnati police in last 5 years
This is the sixth fatal shooting by Cincinnati police officers in the past five years. In five of those cases, the officers who fired their weapons were cleared of any wrongdoing by the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office and faced no charges.
This marks Cincinnati police's second fatal shooting under Hennie, who has led the Cincinnati Police Department since October 2025. The most recent was the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man in Green Township after an abduction pursuit in August.
