President Trump's latest failed attack on the First Amendment − wherein he tried to ban CNN, MSNow and Politico from the White House − enraged those of us who believe in the First Amendment. But it moved me to song. This one is to the tune of the Beach Boys' classic, "Wouldn't It Be Nice."
Wouldn't it be nice to have a leader,
Who enforced the clear law of the land?
And wouldn't it be nice to have a White House,
Where the media was never banned?
You know we used to have a First Amendment,
But it looks like Trump just wants to end it.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up,
In the morning free from this bad news?
And not to have to read another story,
Featuring another dumb Trump ruse?
Happy times together we'd be spending,
I'm glad his second term is close
to ending.
Oh, wouldn't it be nice?
Maybe if we think and wish and vote and pray,
It might come true.
Oh baby, then there wouldn't be a single thing that Trump could do.
We'd have a free press,
And then we'd be informed.
Oh, wouldn't it be nice?
You know, it seems the more we talk about it,
It only makes it worse to live without it.
But let's talk about it,
But wouldn't it be nice?
