A registered sex offender accused of sexually abusing a 10-year-old in Kentucky is now facing federal charges, meaning he could spend 30 years to life in prison if convicted.
Adam Kendel, 43, has already been indicted in Boyd County, Kentucky where police said he made contact with the child after grooming her over Snapchat.
The family of the girl contacted police in Fairfield Township, investigators said. Then a search of Kendel's home and another property yielded sawed-off shotguns, pistols and rifles. Kendel was arrested in April. He could face additional charges in Butler County related to the search.
The federal charges stem from the same incident in Kentucky.
Federal prosecutors said that from August 2025 through March 2026, Kendel coerced
and enticed the girl to engage in sexual activity and produce material showing child sexual abuse. Court documents say he then showed up unannounced at the girl's home as he was an old friend of the family.
After he left, the girl reported that he tried to hug her and gave her underwear, investigators said.
He faces an additional federal charge because he has already been convicted of sex crime, which will add an additional 10 years to his sentence if convicted.
In 2009, Kendel was charged in both Butler and Hamilton counties with multiple counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Police said he picked up a 13-year-old after a middle school dance and kept her in a Sharonville hotel room for three days for sex, all while the girls parents and police searched for her.
Kendel was convicted in both counties and sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender.
Kendel is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court on Aug. 18
