A donut for breakfast, chili for lunch. Plus a little beer.
That was Vice President JD Vance's menu while visiting Cincinnati on Aug. 21.
He started the day with a stop at Central Pastry, the downtown Middletown shop founded in 1949 and owned by the family of Mayor Elizabeth Slamka since 1984.
After his 1 p.m. remarks at Cleveland-Cliffs,where his grandpa worked as a welder for almost 40 years, Vance made his way to Price Hill Chili and poured a few brews for supporters.
"Anyone want a beer?" he said, handing around plastic cups.

"Welcome to the West Side," a customer, one of about 250 on hand, responded.
Coneys and Conroy follow the beer
Vance, in town to announce a giant federal grant for Middletown's Cleveland-Cliffs steel plant, passed out coneys after the beers.
Joined by Congressional
candidate Eric Conroy, Vance told the crowd he'd last visited the iconic chili parlor about three years ago.
Vance cleared out about 15 minutes after he arrived, to cheers from the crowd and requests for autographs.
Patricia Gallagher Newberry contributed to this report.
