SAN FRANCISCO – Cincinnati Reds starter Brady Singer was to be evaluated again Wednesday, Aug. 26, after suffering an apparent bruise on the right side of his rib cage sliding after an infield chopper in the sixth inning the night before.
Singer, who stayed in the game after the play but exited two batters later at 91 pitches with dangerous lefty-hitting Rafael Devers up, said after the game he thought he was "fine."
Singer is the only member of the Reds rotation who has not missed a scheduled start the past two seasons, having pitched through minor injuries, including a blister and bruised foot earlier this season.
"I just jammed my ribs a little bit, but I felt fine," Singer said. "It was just kind of grabbing. I landed a little weird."

opened the game with two wild looking pitches, the second of which hit Giants leadoff man Drew Gilbert, but then settled down to allow just two runs until a fifth-inning home run by Devers.
“I actually thought he hurt himself the second pitch of the game,” manager Terry Francona said. “But like Singer can do, he limited the damage in teh first inning, then he went out and competed like crazy like he always does.
“I’m telling you, you look up in the sixth, seventh inning and you’ve got a chance to win. That’s what he does.”
The Reds lost 3-1.
Singer was charged with an error on the sixth-inning play, when he lunged off the mound missed the weak chopper, then slid as second-baseman Matt McLain charged in to help on the play.
“He doesn’t seem concerned about it,” said Francona, who said the trainer suggested it’s more of a bruise than a pull or strain of any kind.
“We’ll get him checked tomorrow.”
