Great Parks is renovating the disc golf course at Embshoff Woods Nature Preserve, expanding the nine-hole layout to 18 holes and adding more ways to play.
The project is the fourth and final disc golf course renovation called for in Great Parks' Park and Facility Master Plans, according to a community announcement. Construction is planned to be completed by the end of December 2026.
Great Parks worked with local disc golf advocates and park visitors on the course's design and layout. The changes are intended to accommodate skill levels ranging from beginner to expert.
Embshoff Woods disc golf course will expand to 18 holes
The previous course at Embshoff Woods included nine holes. The renovated course will have 18 holes with two basket locations for each hole.
That will give players 36 basket locations
to choose from, effectively quadrupling the number of holes available. The renovation also includes new tee pads and signs.
“It’s incredibly satisfying to deliver on public priorities for their Great Parks, such as the improvements we’ve made to all our disc golf courses,” Great Parks CEO Todd Palmeter said. “Disc golf is a perfect amenity for our parks, and I always enjoy seeing groups playing one of our courses while enjoying the amazing outdoor spaces we have to offer.”

Conservation work planned at Embshoff Woods
Embshoff Woods is a 334-acre nature preserve with trails, picnic facilities and a playground in addition to its disc golf course.
During the renovation, Great Parks also plans conservation work at the site. That work includes resurfacing a buried drain line, removing honeysuckle and other invasive species and managing the landscape to support biodiversity and resilience, according to the announcement.
The Embshoff Woods project follows renovations at Great Parks disc golf courses at Woodland Mound, Winton Woods and Miami Whitewater Forest that began in 2023.
The disc golf renovations are part of a Great Parks initiative to refresh park experiences identified through community and stakeholder input into its Park and Facility Master Plans.
A valid Motor Vehicle Permit is required for every vehicle entering Embshoff Woods. Information about purchasing permits and accessing free or discounted permits is available at greatparks.org.
