Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield suggested that problems with headsets played a part in his team's season-opening loss to the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium.
"We had some headset issues
for quite a while, in and out," Mayfield told reporters after the Sept. 13 game. "Which, it's not an excuse, but when they're testing them on the sidelines and they work perfectly fine, and then you get out in between the hashes and it's not working, it's unfortunate. But, it wasn't the whole time. Just kinda first drive for sure, and then sporadically throughout the rest of the game. … That's the first time (in my career) it was that bad."
Mayfield lost three fumbles during the game, including one Bengals linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. recovered and returned 27 yards for Cincinnati's first touchdown of the season.
Mayfield scored a rushing TD later in the game but fell to 6-3 in his career against the Bengals. He completed 23 of 28 pass attempts for 216 passing yards, with no passing TDs and no interceptions. He was sacked four times.
