The Ohio High School Athletic Association confirmed Huber Heights Wayne wide receiver Jamier Brown, Ohio's top player and an Ohio State University commit, will be suspended for the first two games of the 2026 season, which affects two Cincinnati teams.
OHSAA Director of Communications Tim Stried confirmed Brown's two-game suspension, saying there were two separate infractions from the summer, each carrying a one-game suspension. Stried also said the infractions were unrelated to his recent transfer. Brown played football at Wayne last season, transferred to Big Walnut, where he competed in track, and then transferred back to Wayne for this fall.
Stried said he can be more specific after the OHSAA board meets Aug. 27 to approve the full infractions
report.
The suspension means that Brown will not play against two Cincinnati teams. Wayne opens in Week 1 at Fairfield and then hosts St. Xavier in Week 2.
Brown's family filed a lawsuit in October 2025 against the OHSAA to allow him and other athletes to benefit from name, image and likeness deals. In response, the OHSAA voted in November to allow athletes to make NIL deals. In February, Reps. Adam Bird (R-New Richmond) and Mike Odioso (R-Green Township) introduced an Ohio House bill to try to end NIL deals for high school athletes.
A 6-foot wide receiver, Brown is the No. 1 recruit in Ohio for the 2027 class and the No. 6 wide receiver in the country according to 247Sports. As a junior for Wayne in 2025, he caught 73 passes in 14 games for 1,009 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The USA TODAY Network Ohio recently named Brown the No. 1 football player in the All-USA Ohio Top 25 ranking. Ten Cincinnati boys made that list as well.
