ESPN NFL analyst Field Yates explained why Cincinnati Bengals defensive back DJ Turner would be his pick for the league's most underrated player.
Yates sang Turner's praises during a discussion about whether fantasy football owners should start Baltimore Ravens receiver Zay Flowers in Week 7, knowing that he's facing Turner and the Bengals.
"DJ Turner is the most underrated player in the NFL," Yates said. "Like it's just a criminally under-discussed player who I don't believe has been, has received All-Pro or Pro Bowl accolades up to this point in his career. It's wild to me."
"That cornerback market exploded this offseason, right?" Yates continued. "The likes of Christian Gonzalez and Devon Witherspoon and Derek Stingley and Pat Surtain, amongst
others, making crazy, great money, $30 million plus per year. DJ Turner belongs in that conversation."
"That is just ridiculous what he has done," Yates added. "That's a hard assignment. Like, we're not talking about him just holding down big physical perimeter wide receivers. You've got guys playing in the slot, smaller twitchier guys, bigger, more physical guys. Shout out to the most underrated player in the NFL."
Yates also suggested he's surprised Turner, who has played in 50 games over four seasons with the Bengals, hasn't received an extension.
