Former Cincinnati Reds great Joey Votto reacted to former St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina's induction into the team's Hall of Fame by tweeting, "Class player. Class franchise."
Votto still played for the Reds in 2022 when he tweeted minutes before the start a series finale against the Cardinals at Great American Ball Park and called for "appreciation for the experience of competing against Cards icons" Molina and Albert Pujols.
Pujols was inducted alongside Molina into the Cardinals' Hall of Fame.
Molina and former Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips were the principals in a memorable Reds-Cardinals brawl in August 2010.
In August, Votto said during NBC's Sunday Night Baseball broadcast of Cincinnati's game against the Cubs in Chicago
he had a pregame message he delivered to Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz.
"I had a conversation before the game and told him, 'I want you to watch (Pete Crow-Armstrong) today. When PCA gets these MVP chants, that's going to be Elly De La Cruz in 2027,'" Votto said. "And I think he's motivated. … He has every single tool identical to PCA. He just has not tapped into his full potential. And his full potential is best player in baseball."
