As the Cincinnati Reds' season takes it final, shallow breaths this season, the Reds seem determined to take a few Dodgers down with them.
The week after Shohei Ohtani finally landed on the injured list after making his last appearance against the Reds, the Dodgers lost two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell to a groin injury one inning into a start against his personal punching-bag Reds.
Snell, whose last appearance at Great American Ball Park produced a no-hitter for the Giants in 2024, faced just three batters Wednesday (Sept. 16), in his seventh start back from elbow surgery to remove bone chips.
The left-hander struck out Dane Myers, retired Elly De La Cruzon a fly to center and gave up a single to Sal Stewart, who was subsequently thrown out trying
to steal second.
Snell, who was 4-1 with a 1.91 ERA since returning from the injured list, did not take the mound in the second. Right-hander Blake Treinen took over in a game that became a bullpen day for a Dodgers team seeking a clinch of the NL West title with a victory.
